Dai Fujiwara: Creative Director, ISSEY MIYAKE. "I explored every nuance of the term WIND and I had this image of a huge cyclone - powered by Dyson technology. So I challenged James to bring his air expertise to our show."
James Dyson: Engineer and Chairman, Dyson "I have long admired Dai's work pioneering A-POC alongside ISSEY MIYAKE. We share a common approach to design and technology; it's been fascinating seeing my designs reinterpreted as clothing. Dai approached me to help engineer his set for this autumn's show. To bring wind onto the catwalk to showcase ISSEY MIYAKE's latest designs."

In early 2007, the Dyson team set about exploring the possibilities of using super-scale Dyson components in a catwalk environment.
Paris, France. May 2007 James Dyson and Dai Fujiwara meet to discuss development of 'The Wind' as a concept. Sketches are presented, and examples of deconstructed Dyson machines are supplied.
Tokyo, Japan. June 2007 Dai Fujiwara and team unveil initial calico prototypes for the clothing collection at the ISSEY MIYAKE design headquarters. These early designs show explicitly how Dai and his team have explored every angle of the Dyson machine and begun to reinterpret them as outfits.

Tokyo, Japan. August 2007 Dai Fujiwara and team explore fabrics, colours, patterns and textures, both as swatches and as long 'tubes' - ISSEY MIYAKE's unique A-POC (A Piece Of Cloth) method of efficient cloth cutting. Samples are then made into prototype designs and adjusted in-situ using models and mannequins.
Fabric samples, produced at large scale, are considered and analysed by Dai and the team for use in clothing. Tokyo, Aug 2007.

Malmesbury & Swansea, UK. August and September 2007 James Dyson and team explored ways of enlarging current methods of directing airflow and implementing them on the catwalk. 3D simulations were employed before giant hoses were commissioned, tested and suspended above the runway.
Paris, France. Oct 2007 The Dyson team assemble the huge hoses and tunnels that comprise the catwalk environment at the Louvre Gardens venue in Paris. Working overnight, the hoses are suspended from the ceiling and prepared for operation during the show.
Louvre Gardens, Paris, France. 2 Oct 2007 The ISSEY MIYAKE Spring/Summer 2008 collection is unveiled, featuring The Wind designs. The fashion world watches in awe at the Dyson-designed set transforms the catwalk into an environment dictated by airflow.

Nov 2007 Dyson release the DC16 Limited Edition to celebrate the collaboration between the two designers. The DC16 is the first cordless handheld vacuum with twice the suction power of other handhelds. The patented cyclones spin dirt from the air at high speed, which means it doesn't clog with debris and the suction stays constant each time you use it.
